The365Coach

A coaching resource for coaches by coaches.

What is The365Coach?

Where to begin? I have been working on the idea of a sports coaching site for 15 years. I am fortunate to have made coaching my profession. I have been coaching hockey as a full-time job since 1994. Since that time, I have been studying the art of coaching and leadership, and I have come to realize that there is no magic bullet to coaching. I have so many ideas running through my head, that I have written down over the years, and although there are dots to connect, I have not yet seen the full picture. I am not sure that it is possible to ever see the picture, but my hope is that this site will bring me some clarity.

I believe that coaching is more than just running some practices and managing the bench for games. Coaching is not a part-time job for a few hours 3-4 times a week. Coaching, at least in my life, is a 365 day job. A coach is a leader, team builder, role model, father, adviser, mentor, teacher, and so much more. A coach has the ability to make the biggest impact in the life of a young person, but that impact can go in many directions. Many coaches get involved to help their kids team because nobody else will do it. However, do not underestimate the impact that we have on children as their leader. My hope is that The365Coach can be a resource for all coaches to help add insight into the responsibility that we all have in developing the physical, mental, and social aspects of a young person.

Along the way, I hope this sports coaching site provides my readers with some clarity as well. I hope they will participate and give feedback, engage in discussion, and even lend their thoughts on ideas that work when coaching teams. Although many of my posts will center around sports, I would like to think that the concepts shared here can apply to any team regardless of the medium.

My focus will be on coaching and leadership. I will provide my insights into building team culture. My newest passion and endeavor is proper athlete development. I will hopefully add some insight into motivation, and I will always have time to share whatever is on my mind. Some of my writing is based on research. Some is based on experience. Some of it I will make up as I go. So join me in my journey of self-discovery and I hope to inspire you and bring clarity to your own journey.
